About Us

Black Women in Biotechnology is a nonprofit research and education organization based in Atlanta. Georgia, founded by Jaynene Mercer and Najma Cade in collaboration with Morehouse School of Medicine. We construct therapeutic infrastructure based on cannabinoid science and trauma-responsive care. Our systems enable clinicians, educators, and researchers to advance through the healing process with improved precision while respecting cultural factors and preserving authorship rights.

Our work originated from the necessity to create teachable and scalable formats to preserve the therapeutic principles learned from cannabis studies. Cannabis is one of the oldest medicinal plants in human history and has been used in various cultures and ethnicities for self-regulation and balance. The chemical compounds of cannabis, called cannabinoids, are used to regulate trauma recovery, immune repair,  and build cognitive resilience. They do this by interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid system.

We place these unique compounds (THC, CBD, CBG, CBN, THCV, etc.) in relation to the presentations we see in the real world using dosage engines, intake maps, and capsule workflows. We partner with Morehouse School of Medicine as an anchor to our research and to bring academic rigor as well as community impact. Our systems are designed to be modular, trauma-responsive, and for institutional use. We protect contributor roles in each step and allow for collaborative authorship in cross-disciplinary settings.

We invite clinicians, educators, researchers, and community members to build with us.

Let’s construct tools that restore balance, preserve legacy, and build accessibility to care

The brain has its own cannabis-like system.

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) regulates mood, memory, pain, and emotional processing. It’s active even without cannabis—and its dysfunction is linked to trauma, anxiety, and neurodegeneration. We design systems that restore ECS balance using targeted cannabinoid formats

THC mimics a molecule your brain already makes.

THC closely resembles anandamide, a neurotransmitter your body produces to regulate mood, memory, and fear extinction. Both bind to CB1 receptors—supporting emotional recalibration, sleep, and trauma recovery. Our dosage engines map this interaction to real-world presentations.
